Pope Leo XIV has urged people to protect human dignity in the digital age in his message for the 60th World Day of Social Communications, warning that artificial intelligence and social media can weaken critical thinking, damage real relationships and blur the line between truth and falsehood. Writing from the Vatican, the Pope said faces and voices are sacred signs of each person’s identity and must not be reduced to tools for profit, manipulation or imitation. He called for a responsible approach to technology based on responsibility, cooperation and education, saying governments, media organisations, technology firms and schools all have a duty to ensure digital tools serve the common good rather than undermine it.
