With hearts uplifted in thanksgiving and hope, we joyfully announce the reopening of the Orientation Course Programme in Basankusu, beginning September 1st, 2025. This renewal marks a sacred moment of grace and restoration, inspired by the words of Pope Francis at the opening of the Jubilee Year: “Hope does not disappoint.” Indeed, though hope may be tested by time, it remains steadfast, anchored in faith and nourished by perseverance.
We entrust this renewed mission to the intercession of Blessed Isidore Bakanja, a faithful witness who clung to God with unwavering trust amid trials. His example illumines our path as we welcome this new chapter of formation and discernment.
The closure of the programme in 2017 was a moment of sorrow and reflection. Yet, through prayerful dialogue and fraternal consultation, the Lord has opened a new door. We express our profound gratitude to the General Chapter of 2022 and the current General Council for their discernment and generous approval. Their decision rekindles our bond with the Diocese of Basankusu and reaffirms our shared commitment to the mission of the Church.
This initiative is more than a reopening, it is a renewal of communion. It strengthens the spiritual and pastoral ties between our Society and the local faithful, and offers young men a sacred space to listen to the voice of the Lord, who continues to call: “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.”
We rejoice in the presence of four young aspirants who have begun this journey of vocational discovery. Their courage and openness reflect the vibrant faith of the youth in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the enduring relevance of the Mill Hill motto: “To love and to serve.”
We extend heartfelt thanks to Father Michael Corcoran, our General Superior, and his Council, for their paternal support and encouragement. We also acknowledge with gratitude all those seen and unseen who have contributed to this project through prayer, material support, and spiritual solidarity.
As we embark on this mission of hope, we humbly ask for your continued prayers and accompaniment. May the Holy Spirit inflame our hearts with zeal, and may Blessed Isidore Bakanja intercede for us, that this house of formation may bear fruit for the glory of God and the good of His people.
May peace abound, and may the Lord bless this new beginning.
