Bishop George Nkuo (Kumbo, Cameroon): ‘Military Offensive Will Only Radicalise People’

I know there have been frequent attacks on both sides. There have been attempts by the military to reach “the boys” [separatist fighters are called “Amba-boys”] and there have been attempts by “the boys” to reach the military. I know that these confrontations cannot solve the problem. The people who are at war know what it takes to resolve the problem and they just need a good will, love for the people and the love for the country to resolve this matter. I don’t think that whether you are cleaning Kumbo or you are cleaning Bamenda, it is still a battle, a confrontation and at the end of the day, people are killed, and innocent lives are lost on both sides. At the end of the day there will be no solution to the problem. They know what to do to resolve the problem. No amount of Kumbo cleaning will solve the problem. That is what I know because the more people get radicalized, the more they become determined to lose more blood. I think it has been a failed attempt to solve this problem. That is what I can say.
