Cameroon: Launch of the Centenary Year of the Mill Hill Missionaries
On the 10th of January 2022, all the Mill Hill Missionaries working in Cameroon gathered together for their Annual Assembly at the Mill Hill guest house in Bamenda. This has been one of the most attended Assemblies since the beginning of the socio-political crisis in the English speaking region of Cameroon. At least this time around, all the members as well as students on Mission Experience (MEP) answered present at the meeting. We were equally blessed to have the Councilor for Africa, Fr. Andrew Mukulu present at this Annual Assembly. This year’s Assembly was very significant for us, because it ended with the launching of the centenary year.
That is on Friday the 14th of January 2022, the celebration of the closing mass of the Annual Assembly was doubled with the launching of a 100 years of Loving Service by the Mill Hill Missionaries in the English speaking parts of Cameroon. As part of the centenary preparations, a centenary committee was created, with a team comprising of some priests, a few Friends of Mill Hill and some lay people. The lay faithful had their fair share of representation at the celebration while the events were media-covered by CRTV and Radio Evangelium. Just before the end of the Eucharistic celebration, the councilor of Africa together with the Society’s Representative of Cameroon, Fr Innocent Wefon, unveiled the centenary banner to officially begin the celebrations of centenary year.
With this already done, it is now our duty as members, Friends of Mill Hill, families and Christians of the Ecclesiastical Provence of Bamenda, to unite our ourselves with one heart and one mind to mobilize people for the centenary celebration. Different dates have been selected for the celebrations within the dioceses of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. This will soon be communicated to us all. Yet while waiting, we remain thankful to the Society’s Representative for Cameroon for a well-organized Assembly and a successful launching of the centenary year.
