
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the President of the Bishops’ Conference, congratulated Keir Starmer on becoming the new Prime Minister after Labour’s election win. Cardinal Nichols also sent Starmer a letter assuring him of his prayers and support as he starts his new job leading the government.

Cardinal Nichols expressed his good wishes in his letter and highlighted the Catholic Church’s willingness to work with the new government. He mentioned the Church’s strong partnership with the UK Government, especially in running over two thousand schools. He looked forward to continuing this cooperation in education and other areas for the common good.

The Cardinal appreciated Starmer’s positive remarks about working with churches and faith communities and emphasized that the Church is ready to help. He acknowledged the challenges ahead for Starmer but wished him well and promised to keep him and his family in his prayers.
