Pope Francis has recognized a miracle linked to Blessed Carlo Acutis, paving the way for him to become the first millennial saint. Carlo Acutis was an Italian teenager who loved computers and had a deep devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist. He died of cancer in 2006 at the age of 15.
The miracle involves a 21-year-old girl from Costa Rica named Valeria Valverde. She was severely injured in a bicycle accident in Florence in 2022 and was close to death. After her mother prayed at Carlo Acutis’ tomb in Assisi, Valeria began to recover quickly and completely healed, despite doctors’ grim predictions.
Born in 1991, Carlo was beatified in 2020. He used his tech skills to create an online exhibition about Eucharistic miracles. Carlo’s devotion inspired many people, including his own parents and friends, to deepen their faith.
Carlo called the Eucharist “my highway to heaven” and tried to attend Mass daily. He is remembered for saying, “People who place themselves before the sun get a tan; people who place themselves before the Eucharist become saints.”
Carlo offered his suffering to God before he died, saying he wanted to go straight to heaven. His beatification drew thousands of visitors to his tomb in Assisi. Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi celebrated the news of Carlo’s upcoming canonization, thanking the Lord for Carlo’s powerful example of faith and love.
