We are honoured to have Fr. Kenneth, a Spiritan missionary from Nigeria, sharing his insights and experiences during our assembly in the British region. With many years of experience working in England, Fr. Kenneth shared the rich history of the Spiritans in the British province. Currently, their British province has 105 members from 13 nationalities across ten dioceses.
Their missions are varied, including parish and community-based ministries. They emphasize responding to areas where the Church lacks workers, highlighting the importance of parish ministry in this regard. Additionally, their parishes serve as platforms for prophetic witness, prioritizing justice, peace, and intercultural dialogue.
Chaplaincies provide tangible opportunities to serve the most vulnerable in our society, including the sick, imprisoned, and marginalized. Despite challenges such as apathy toward the Church, emotional strain, and disruptions like COVID-19, Spiritans find profound fulfilment in positively impacting lives through their chaplaincy ministries.
Spiritans face diverse challenges like other congregations, including integration issues, visa demands, societal trends like secularization, and governmental standards. They recognize the need for ongoing training and adaptation to navigate these challenges effectively.
To effectively address these challenges, Spiritans have implemented a range of strategies. These include integration programs, collaboration with dioceses and lay associates, professional development, and pastoral experiences. They also place a strong emphasis on inclusive leadership, diversity training, and continuous learning to harness the power of diverse perspectives.
Through their collective efforts, Spiritans renew their mission and charism, attract new vocations, and bring hope to other missions in Europe. They advise establishing good policies, collaborating with dioceses and other religious organizations, and investing in human resources.
As they face changing societal dynamics, Spiritans reflect on the influence of diversity on decision-making processes. They recognize the importance of inclusivity in reaching common goals.
