Fr. Michael McKenna, MHM, dedicated his life to missionary work and the service of the Church. Soon after his ordination, Michael was appointed to the Diocese of Rawalpindi, Pakistan. In 1970, he began his service at Burn Hall School in Abbottabad. Two years later, he became Secretary to Bishop Hettinga and Assistant Bursar in the Rawalpindi Diocese. Michael also served as parish priest of Sacred Heart Church in Westridge for several years.
His dedication to furthering his knowledge led him to the Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned his Licentiate in Canon Law (LCL) in 1982. He then returned to Rawalpindi, continuing his mission work until 1993. During the latter part of 1993, Michael enriched his spiritual journey by attending the “Faith and Mission” course at the Columban Motherhouse in Navan, Ireland.
In 1994, Fr. Michael did a Chaplaincy post at the Bernardine Cistercian Monastery, Our Lady of Hyning, in Lancaster Diocese, where he faithfully served for twenty-three years.
Fr. Michael peacefully returned to the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, 20th July 2024, at Southport Hospital. His contributions and dedication to the Church will be remembered fondly. May he rest in peace.
