Mill Hill presence in Islamabad-Rawalpindi Archdiocese in northern Pakistan continues today with members from Uganda, Kenya and Cameroon serving in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sargoda, Our Lady of Fatima Church in Islamabad and Sacred Heart Church in Rawalpindi. Their roots in the region stretch back to 1879, when the area was still known as Kashmir and Kafiristan, and in 1887 Pope Leo XIII established the Prefecture Apostolic of Kafiristan and Kashmir from the northern reaches of the Diocese of Lahore, entrusting it to the Mill Hill Missionaries. The first notable prefect was the Very Rev. Dominic Wagner, appointed on 13 March 1900, who was born in Friesland in 1863, trained at St Joseph’s Missionary College in Mill Hill, London, and ordained in 1889 by Cardinal Vaughan in Salford Cathedral.
