Participants in the ongoing Global Young Members Meeting spent Sunday, 5 July, with the faithful of St Joseph and Mary Parish, Shauri Moyo, Nairobi.
The Mill Hill Missionaries have served in the parish for more than 40 years, living alongside the people, most of whom are residents of the nearby informal settlement. Although the community faces many daily challenges, one of the greatest concerns today is the threat of eviction. Ongoing demolitions have already forced many families to leave their homes.
Despite these difficult circumstances, the people of the parish remain hopeful. They continue to place their trust in God and live their faith with courage and joy.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Michael Corcoran, MHM, and concelebrated by more than 30 young Mill Hill members taking part in the meeting. The participants were warmly welcomed by the parish community.
After the Mass, the group made a brief visit to Chelsea Marina Second Cycle Formation Centre. For many participants who completed their formation there, the visit brought back fond memories of their years of preparation for missionary life. It also gave those who studied in India for their Second Cycle formation an opportunity to experience the Nairobi formation house for the first time.
The visit was especially meaningful, as it is expected to be the last for many participants before the Second Cycle Formation Centre moves to Karen next year.
The participants also visited the new Mill Hill house and formation centre in Karen, which will become the new home for formation in Kenya. The visit offered an opportunity to see the new facilities and to look forward with hope to the next chapter in the mission and formation of the Society in the region.
