Fr. Rebenie M. Madar, MHM, from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Matli (Diocese of Hyderabad, Pakistan), shares a heartfelt appeal on behalf of a small and struggling community. Significant number of families live in deep poverty, many trapped in bonded labour and denied access to education. In the remote village of Shakirim, parents long for the chance for their children to read and write, hoping to break free from the cycle of hardship through education. With limited resources, Fr. Rebenie seeks the support to help establish a simple tuition school that could bring hope, dignity, and a brighter future to these vulnerable families.
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Matli, part of the Diocese of Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan, serves both the Parkari Kohli tribe and the Punjabi community, which are spread across approximately 30 villages. Christian and Hindu families live side by side in these villages. One such place is Shakirim, a remote village located nearly two and a half hours from Matli. In Shakirim, five Christian families coexist with ten Hindu families.
Most of the community belongs to the Parkari Kohli tribe, who face many difficulties. They do not own land and often work as bonded laborers for landlords, receiving wages determined by the landlords. Because of this system, many children cannot go to school and must work to support their families. Adults too have little or no education, which makes it hard for them to know their rights or seek better opportunities. This cycle of poverty and dependency has continued for generations.
In Shakirim village, about 20 to 30 children and 10 adults have a strong desire to learn how to read and write. Their parents dream of opening a small tuition school so their children may have a brighter future. However, this dream cannot become reality without help. With support, we can provide education and hope to these families, helping them break free from poverty. Every act of generosity will bring light to this community and answer their prayer for a better tomorrow.
