South Sudan has been facing a serious crisis for many years now, from political tensions to humanitarian and climate challenges. The peace agreement of 2018 seems either not to have been implemented or perhaps forgotten. Some take advantage of the complex situation to accumulate wealth, while many others suffer from hunger and displacement.
Recently, Bishop Alex made an appeal to help and pray for the many people suffering in South Sudan. He stressed that the worsening situation can only be solved through dialogue—by coming together, agreeing on solutions, and avoiding further casualties.
In a conversation with one of our members in South Sudan, it became clear that the general atmosphere is marked by insecurity and uncertainty. Yet at the same time, there is no room for despair, only hope. On his social media account, he shared an update about a celebration welcoming new young members into the Young Christian Students movement (YCS) in the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba. This is certainly a sign of hope, as they put their trust in Christ to become active witnesses of the Gospel in the midst of uncertainty.
