India: Mill Hill Missionaries in Regional Assembly

Having participated in Safeguarding Training / Workshop conducted on 1st & 2nd August 2023 by Fr. Barry O’Sullivan, we segued into another couple of days from 3rd & 4th August for the General Assembly of the Mill Hill Missionaries – India.

At the advice of the General Council we roped in a facilitator Fr. Joe Sebastian, SJ, the Former Provincial Superior of Jesuits in Andhra Pradesh. It was indeed a blessing to have had Fr. Joe Sebastian with us. With his rich and vast experience of leadership, teaching and pastoral ministry, he was able to guide and help us focus on the essentials. His timely interruptions were thoughtful and very insightful.

The two days of gathering were about looking at the whole issue of how to become self-sustainable since India has now been made a region apart from other concerns of land & properties and its legalities. There were several suggestions and ideas put forward. However, members were encouraged to send in their proposals and ideas so as to help the Regional Team to come up with some concrete steps in order to move towards self-sustainability.

Members were encouraged to follow up on the Safeguarding Policy of Mill Hill Missionaries which will soon come into effect for Mill Hill – India. On the other hand, members were invited to write up their personal Last Will without fail.

Although there were many other concerns, we managed to cover up the urgent and most important matters of the Society.
