The Irish Region held their Jubilees Day on Wednesday 21st of July. Jubilee Day is always a great day for members to gather from the different parts of Ireland and further afield to celebrate with gratitude and thanksgiving the jubilees of our members. The 2020 Jubilee of the now late Tom Rafferty could not be held due to the global pandemic and his being unable to leave Pakistan at the time. This uncertainty due to the situation continued with the 2021 celebrations as lockdown has been a major controller on gatherings and activities. The Regional Council saw a glimmer of opportunity at their meeting on the 30th June and presented the 21st of July as a possible date to hold the Jubilees and we fortunately managed to do so.
This year, the Region has two Platinum Jubilarians, Seán O’Brien and Chris O’Connor who are the two surviving members from a class of twenty three Mill Hill Missionaries who were ordained on the 8th of July 1951. For the last three years Fr. Chris has been residing in a Nursing Home and he is in good physical health. We celebrated, gave thanks and acknowledged his ministerial milestone in his absence.
Kevin Reynolds celebrated his Golden Jubilee and presided and preached at the Eucharistic Celebration. Seán proclaimed the Gospel. The Silver Jubilarian, Liam Cummins, was unable to be present but was also acknowledged and prayed for. Normally a number of family members of the jubilarians are invited but for the first time in over 30 years we had no family members present, being mindful of the situation. Eight Mill Hill members from outside the house as well as the Administration staff gathered to celebrate the day and we had a lively liturgy and a tasty and enjoyable Jubilee banquet.
Congratulations and Ad Multos Annos.
