An Irish missionary and athletics coach, known as “the Godfather of Kenyan running” has been awarded by the Irish government for his work coaching athletes in Kenya.
Colm O’Connell, a Patrician Brother, is to receive this year’s Presidential Distinguished Service Award that recognizes the contributions of the Irish diaspora. He is among 11 recipients of this year’s award.
Brother O’Connell will be presented with the award by Irish President Michael D. Higgins at a ceremony on 2 December.
