Our neighbours, the Cistercian Sisters of Koningsoord Abbey, sent us an update on the letter from the Fons Pacis community in Homs, Syria. (F.E.)
Beloved, events have gone so fast that an update is necessary, compared to what was written only three days ago. The government of Bashar al Assad fell yesterday. The prime minister spoke to the nation, assuring a peaceful transition to a new government formation.
In fact everything is happening quickly and without violence, a sign that this has been prepared for some time, and that there are international agreements that support it. The promise is that of a state that respects everyone we will see in the coming days. Now it is important that everything happens quickly, to avoid a power vacuum that will create chaos in the country. And then to see whether an Islamic confessional state will be created, dependent on outside influences, or whether it will really be an autonomous, sovereign state.
I will not hide from you that many people are happy about the fall of the government, and they see an opportunity to end up with corruption, secret service violence…the mafias. And it is true. On the other hand,
how can we not remember that “the other side,” all these years, has not hesitated to use jihadists, murderers, and media lies to carry out its battle?
Truly one cannot look at things from only one side! But we can ask you to pray, and that is what we do with this second message. May all this serve for a path of truth, life, and recovery for the country. And may it be
for Christians a commitment to live their faith more decisively.
Thank you for being close to us …
In Christ, the sisters of Fons Pacis.
