Father Alphonse (Fons) Eppink, a Mill Hill Missionary priest, who died on Tuesday 24 March 2026, aged 82, in the Netherlands.
Fons was born in the Netherlands in 1943 and was ordained a priest in 1967. Soon after, he began missionary work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he served for many years as a parish priest, teacher and Vicar General. He later held important roles within the Mill Hill Missionaries in both Africa and Europe.
Fons was especially known for his work in training young missionaries, giving retreats and offering spiritual guidance. He spoke several languages and was respected for his kindness, calm nature and deep faith. He also supported the Society through writing and communication work.
In recent years, Fons lived with cancer, which he faced with great peace and trust in God. He died with his two sisters by his side.
