Pope Leo XIV has urged the world to put human dignity before technology, warning that artificial intelligence and digital power could deepen injustice, weaken truth and harm the common good if left unchecked. In this important first encyclical on safeguarding the human person in the time of artificial intelligence, he says modern society faces a clear choice: to build a future shaped by profit, control and exclusion, or one based on justice, solidarity and care for others. He calls on governments, businesses, schools and families to act responsibly, protect workers and the vulnerable, and make sure new technology serves people rather than replacing or exploiting them. He also warns against the growing dangers of war, misinformation and social division, and appeals for peace, dialogue and a renewed commitment to what he calls a “civilisation of love.”
