Panyangara parish is a Mill Hill parish located in the remote diocese of Kotido in the north eastern part of Uganda. The parish is run by young Mill Hill priests from Kenya and Cameroon who have been very much immersed in the growth of the community. Since last year, the parish has been in struggling to refurbish their local thatched houses that were built by the early missionaries Fr. Declan O’Toole (RIP) and his companions. These thatched houses have always kept the missionaries intertwined within the lives of the local community living in these simple stylish huts and sharing their love with the local communities through prayer and pastoral growth. The community mobilized a few resources and collected grass to help in the thatching of the houses but this hasn’t yielded much and the winds have been very strong since we are now in the prolonged drought spells and the community is very much affected by hunger with death of many elderly people in the local communities.
The parish priest Fr. Dennis Wanjala Apalosil, MHM wrote this morning on the parish platform appealing:
“Dear parishioners, friends and people of good will. Maata daadang and happy New Year 2025 once again, hopefully you are doing well. These are our parish houses and we are in grass roofing process. I appeal for your kind financial support in helping us accomplish the mission of roofing the huts. I remain grateful in all. Alakara nooi. Blessings and peace”.
When the parish celebrated 25 year last year, it was a moment of reflection for how far the parish has come. With the theme “faith and action” it brought hope and strength in the youth who have been actively immersed in the growth of the local church. We are hopeful through the education grants, health, spiritual and social support will help the church to remain independent grow over the year.
