Mill Hill Jinja: Opening Formation Year

“Transfiguration and Unity: Embracing Hope for the New Formation Year”

The Mill Hill Formation House here in Jinja Uganda commenced its 2023-2024 formation and academic year with a joyous celebration of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Mass, presided over by Father Charles Okata, the Rector, accompanied by two co-celebrants, Fr. John Akain and myself, Fr. Placide Elia, along with Deacon Kevin Brown. This favorable occasion marked the beginning of a transformative journey for 30 brothers in formation.

In his heartfelt homily, Father Charles beautifully connected the significance of the Transfiguration to the hope it brought to the Disciples. Just as the Lord revealed a new life to them, igniting hope for their future, so too do we embark on this new formation year with renewed optimism. The theme for this year, “that they may be one” from John 17:21, resonates deeply, emphasizing the importance of unity among all members of the community.

With great anticipation, we embrace the year ahead, confident that the shared experiences, teachings, and spiritual growth will bring us closer together. As we journey together in faith, we strive to build a harmonious and cohesive community, a reflection of the divine unity that Jesus envisioned for his disciples.

The atmosphere during the Mass was nothing short of magical. The singing was a testament to the dedication and devotion of our brothers, filling the sacred space with awe-inspiring melodies. Each note echoed with passion and purpose, reinforcing our commitment to embracing the values of faith, unity, love, and understanding.

As we gather with open hearts and minds, the Mill Hill Formation House Jinja becomes a crucible for personal transformation and collective growth. The bond we forge during this formative year will endure beyond these walls, fostering lifelong connections that will fortify our mission to serve our Lord with our motto Amare et Servire (to Love and To Serve) and to accept the mission for the salvation of humanity.

In the spirit of hope and unity, we embark on this journey together, guided by the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us cherish each moment of learning and spiritual nourishment, embracing the challenges and victories that lie ahead. With God’s grace and the support of our community, we are confident that we will emerge as one, fulfilling the profound theme of this year.

May this formation year be a steppingstone towards greater understanding, compassion, and love, paving the way for a brighter future for us all. Let us walk hand in hand, united in purpose, and deeply rooted in the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Together, let us strive for a successful and transformative 2023-2024 formation and academic year, where the light of the Transfiguration shines brightly within us all.
