It is the month of Mission, this is the day of Mission, it’s aways the year of Mission – a verse from the lyrics of my October 2019 Extraordinary Month of Mission Song.
Mission Sunday echoes around the world in every Country, Diocese and Parish – the Mission of the Church – to proclaim the Love of God, to Spread the Kingdom of God, the saving presence of Jesus, the Paschal Mystery; the Mission of all the baptized.
But when did you and me first feel called to Mission, to be missionaries, to evangelize?
I did when, in my teens multitasking studies, trade, business, faith and family duties; when I was constantly, unavoidably and inescapably exposed to the calls of the prophets and Apostles in the Readings at Mass, but more resoundingly in religious music, melodies and lyrics; the likes of Here I am Lord, is it I Lord…; follow me follow me…..; send me Lord I will go….; aid me Lord to do your bidding…; go the Mass is ended….; colours of day dawn into the night…
But none astounded like Hark the voice of Jesus crying.
Hark The Voice Of Jesus Crying? Who Will Go And Work Today?
Fields Are White, And Harvest Waiting: Who Will Bear The Sheaves Away?
Loud And Strong The Master Calleth, Rich Reward He Offers Thee:
Who Will Answer, Gladly Saying? Here Am I; Send Me; Send Me!
If You Cannot Cross The Ocean, And The Heathen Lands Explore,
You Can Find The Heathen Nearer, You Can Help Them At Your Door,
If You Cannot Give Your Thousands, You Can Give The Widow’s Mite;
And The Least You Do For Jesus Will Be The Precious In His Sight
If among the older people, you may not be apt to teach;
Feed my lambs said Christ our shepherd, place the food within their reach.
And it maybe that the children, you have led with trembling hands,
Will be found among your jewels, when you reach a better land.
Let None Hear You Idly Saying, There Is Nothing I Can Do,
While The Souls Of Men Are Dying, And The Master Calls For You.
Take The Task He Gives You Gladly, Let His Work Your Pleasure Be;
Answer Quickly When He Calleth: Here Am I; Send Me; Send Me.
God bless the Mission of the Church, the Mission of all the baptized, the Mission of Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries – Missio ad intra and Missio ad extra (mission into the life/love/dance of the Trinity and mission out from the Trinity into suffering, broken, sinful, hopeless, fatherless lives.
“Hearts on fire, feet on the move”. Our hearts do burn within us when we hear His Word in Scriptures, in melodies, in mystery and our feet are on the move, appealing, appreciating, advocating, proclaiming, rejoining, dispatching, transporting, alleviating, consoling, collaborating, and interceding.
You receive without charge, give without charge! Matthew 10:8
