Nairobi, Kenya: Start of New Year of Formation
After a year at the Basic Formation Centre in Luanda, I was asked by the General Council to temporarily join the formation team in the Formation Centre- Nairobi of our theology students. This was quite unexpected as I was just settling in my ministry in Luanda. I however decided to take up the challenge. I reported to Nairobi on 2nd of August to start orientation. Nairobi has been very cold.
Despite the anxiety in the country and especially here in Nairobi, as we await the presidential results, all students managed to arrive. The students are 34 in total drawn from Africa and Asia. From 8th august, students have been having orientation in different formation aspects as the 4th year students went on with their comprehensive exams at Tangaza.
Opening liturgy was on Sunday 14th August 2022, feast day of Maxmillian Kolbe. In his homily, the incoming rector Fr. Dominic Nyachoti mhm, asked the students not to fear conflicts or even their own imperfections as they are necessary in the whole journey of human growth.
The mass was concluded by a simple ceremony of welcoming to the first years, myself included. We were offered a candle, a sign of Christ the light on our way amidst all that will darken the way in the course of the formation year. May the Lord accompany us that we may have a successful formation year.
