Nairobi, Kenya: Three-in-one Celebration of Mill Hill Sisters

Our Mill Hill sisters had a colourful celebration on 11th November 2023 at Hekima University College in Nairobi. It was a three-in-one celebration. One novice Maxmilla Adisa making her first profession, one sister Monicah Nyaboke celebrating her silver jubilee and Sister Bernadette Nealon celebrating her golden jubilee. The occasion was presided over by Bishop Joseph Obanyi of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega.

The bishop expressed his delight in presiding over a Mill Hill celebration. He remembered how he had met Sr. Anne Moore, Mother General, when he was a young boy and his mother was working with the Sisters. He also met Sr. Bernadette as a young Sister that had just come to Kenya. Sr. Monica is his contemporary. Celebrating her silver Jubilee almost at the same time the bishop is celebrating his. Novice Maxmilla comes from Kakamega where he is the Bishop. Therefore, he was very much part of the celebrants lives.

In his homily, the bishop encouraged the Sisters to know that God makes no mistake. He chooses from wherever he wants. He asked them to find joy in serving Christ as they embrace the cross. Quoting from St. Paul, he added that religious people should count everything as rubbish after the joy of knowing Christ.

We had a meal together at the Mill Hill House Nairobi and the Sisters celebrating symbolically cut the cake to mark a new beginning in their lives. As we congratulate them, we equally pray for the mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of St. Joseph in Kenya and the whole world.
