Nairobi: Perpetual Oath and Diaconate

The last weekend of September has been a memorable one at the Mill Hill Second Cycle in Nairobi. On Friday 24th September, nine students in temporary membership took their Perpetual Oath commitment at the Formation Centre in the presence of the entire community, Mill Hill members and some family members and friends of the candidates. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the East Africa Area Society Representative, Joseph King Afumaboh, mhm, who was the official GC delegate for this year’s PO celebrations. In his homily he called on the candidates to cultivate the virtues of humility, dedication and obedience in their missionary ministry taking St. Joseph as their model.

Prior to the PO celebrations on the evening of Thursday 23rd September, the General Superior himself, Michael Corcoran, mhm, welcomed the nine brothers via an online zoom video call. He encouraged the entire formation community to remain steadfast, enthusiastic and hopeful as missionaries using the opportunities at our disposal to deepen our relationship with Christ.

The following day after the PO celebrations, the nine new perpetual were ordained deacons at St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral, Ngong, by Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba, Bishop of Nakuru Diocese. In attendance was also Rt. Rev. Paride Taban, Bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Torit, South Sudan. The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a reception for all the faithful who joined us that day.

We thank God for the gift of the nine new members in our Society and for their generous response to God’s call as Mill Hill Missionaries. We are also appreciate of the warm hospitality offered to us by the rector and entire leadership of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Ngong.

Let us continue to keep the new members in our prayers as they engage in their transitional diaconal ministry while rounding up their studies at Tangaza University College.
