Fr. Rebenie Madar, MHM, who is currently serving in Matli Parish, Sindh, Pakistan, shares his reflection on the recent celebration of World Mission Sunday.
Every baptized Christian has a threefold mission: to be a priest, prophet, and king. While this mission may seem simple, it is actually quite challenging to put into practice. As priests, we have a duty to support the Church, pray for our loved ones and even our enemies, and offer sacrifices, especially for those in need. Praying for and forgiving our enemies can be difficult, especially when our hearts and minds are filled with feelings of revenge and rebellion. However, acceptance and focusing on the brighter side of every challenge can help us fulfil our priestly mission.
Our prayers and sacrifices should be accompanied by action, such as sharing God’s message with others. The various experiences we encounter in life serve as a vivid testament to our role as prophets. In our witnessing, pride may hinder us, tempting us to feel superior to others. Therefore, humility is essential in living out our kingly mission, which means putting Christ at the centre of our lives.
Recently, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Matli, we celebrated Mission Sunday in a meaningful way. We commissioned altar servers and installed lectors and commentators. We are grateful to Petereric Mwenda, our MEP student, for preparing them with patience and perseverance. Ultimately, our mission begins in love and finds its end in love.
