Pope Francis has unveiled his message for the 61st World Day of Prayer for Vocations, underscoring the theme of hope and peace within the Christian pilgrimage. Emphasizing the journey as a synodal path towards discovering God’s love, the pontiff highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “Called to Sow Seeds of Hope and to Build Peace,” set to be observed on April 21.
In his message, Pope Francis articulated the importance of anchoring life on the foundation of Christ’s resurrection, asserting that efforts invested in one’s vocation are never in vain. He stressed the synodal nature of discernment within the Church, where diverse charisms and vocations converge, urging believers to listen to one another and discern collectively the leading of the Spirit for the greater good.
The pope linked this year’s theme to the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year’s motif, “Pilgrims of Hope,” advocating for believers to become messengers of unity, peace, and fraternity through Jesus’ vision of a unified human family. He portrayed the pilgrimage as a transformative journey, where individuals shed worldly burdens to embrace God’s love and embark on a path of self-discovery enriched by relationships with others.
Addressing today’s youth, especially those disillusioned with the Church, Pope Francis urged them to engage with Christ, inviting them to pose significant questions and open themselves to His transformative presence. He emphasized Christ’s respect for human freedom and encouraged youth to consider wholehearted devotion if called upon.
