In his homily for World Mission Sunday, Pope Leo urged the faithful to reflect on the Gospel question: “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” He reminded believers that faith is the most precious gift in the eyes of God — the bond of love between God and humanity. Highlighting the example of seven new saints, the Pope praised their steadfast belief, describing them as “lamps capable of spreading the light of Christ” through their devotion and service.
The Pope reflected on the importance of faith in a world rich with material, cultural, and scientific achievements. He warned that without faith, all human progress loses its true meaning, as life itself becomes empty without a relationship with God. “A world without faith,” he said, “would be populated by children living without a Father.” He called on all Christians to pray continually and to draw strength from God, comparing prayer to breathing — essential to sustain the life of the soul.
Pope Leo also addressed the challenges believers face when confronted with suffering and injustice. He reminded listeners that God’s justice is revealed through mercy and forgiveness, shown most clearly on the cross of Christ. The Pope encouraged the faithful to be witnesses of hope, following the example of the new saints — martyrs, missionaries, and servants of humanity — whose lives reflected the love of God. He concluded with a message of perseverance and faith, urging everyone to “pray without ceasing” so that faith may continue to shine brightly on earth.
