This year marks a significant milestone for St. Francis Xavier Parish, Oloolaimutia, in the Diocese of Ngong, Kenya, as it celebrates its third anniversary. The parish, located in the vibrant Maasai community, has grown into a symbol of hope and faith for its members since its establishment in 2021.
A Journey of Growth and Faith
The foundation of St. Francis Xavier Parish was a response to the growing pastoral needs of the Oloolaimutia community. The parish has expanded its pastoral reach, now comprising 14 Small Christian Communities (SCCs) and 10 outstations. These SCCs have become integral to fostering a sense of unity and shared mission within the diverse parish community.
The Mission Team of St. Francis Xavier is under the pastoral care of Rev. Fr. David Masiga, MHM (Team Leader and Parish Priest), and Rev. Fr. William Epiti, MHM, whose dedicated service has been instrumental in the parish’s growth. Additionally, Symon Sumierda from the Philippines is currently gaining Mission Experience in the parish, further enriching its pastoral ministry with a global perspective.
Anniversary Celebrations and Sacrament of Confirmation
The third-anniversary celebration was a colourful event filled with thanksgiving, cultural expression, and community spirit. The day’s activities began at 10 am with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Bishop John Oballa Owaa of Ngong Diocese, and concelebrated by priests serving in the parish and the surrounding deanery.
This year’s anniversary was particularly special as the parish witnessed its first-ever conferment of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Sixty candidates, prepared through months of catechesis, were confirmed during the celebration. In his homily, Bishop Oballa encouraged the newly confirmed and the entire parish community to remain vigilant and prayerful, ready to defend their Catholic Christian faith in the face of challenges.
During his remarks, Fr. Hillary Awiti (East Africa Regional Representative) thanked the Christians for their hard work and support for the Mill Hill Missionaries. He congratulated the Bishop, the Pastoral Team and Parishioners on their steady progress and wished everyone a prosperous new year 2025.
Looking Ahead
As St. Francis Xavier Parish celebrates its third year, it looks ahead with hope and determination. The Parish Pastoral Council Moderator expressed the desire to have a church structure put up in Talek and get a second full time Catechist to help reach out to the parish that spans over 70kms radius.
The anniversary serves as a reminder of the transformative power of faith witnessed through the life of St. Francis Xavier the Patron Saint celebrated on 3rd December.
The journey of St. Francis Xavier Parish is a reflection to the power of collaboration and the enduring presence of God’s grace among His people. As we celebrate this milestone, we pray for continued blessings upon the parish, its leadership, and the faithful.
