Support Free Access to COVID-19 Vaccines for Low Income Countries

Now that the first vaccines against corona are available, there is light at the end of the tunnel. But for the time being only for the rich countries. They have bought up most of the available quantities of vaccines.

India and South Africa have submitted a proposal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to release all drugs associated with COVID-19 from WTO patent obligations. Unsurprisingly, resistance from rich countries in particular is strong, while the proposal is supported by 99, especially poorer countries.

Recently, a number of international development organizations have also launched a European Citizens’ Initiative with the message that the right to access the vaccine is more important than the profits of large pharmaceutical companies.
