Ten of our students in Jinja Formation House, Uganda, took their Temporary Missionary Oath, an important phase where candidates earnestly commit themselves to the ideals and obligations of the Society.Â
During this period, candidates engage in a comprehensive formation programme, embracing the principles of community life and service central to the Society’s mission. Their commitment extends beyond mere participation; it is a pledge to apply themselves diligently, nurturing their spiritual growth and vocational discernment under the guidance of experienced formation staff. At the heart of their temporary missionary oath is a dedication to living and working in accordance with the Society’s Constitutions.
The new temporary members now immerse themselves in the formation programme, recognizing it as a crucial preparation for their future missionary endeavours. They engage wholeheartedly in community life and service activities, striving to cultivate the skills and virtues essential for effective ministry. Central to their journey is cultivating a vibrant prayer life and a deepening knowledge of Christ. They embrace the spirituality of the Society, seeking guidance from formation staff as they continue their personal and spiritual development.

With a spirit of loyalty and selflessness, temporary members actively contribute to advancing the work and mission of the Society. Their commitment to promoting the Society’s objectives transcends personal gain, reflecting a genuine dedication to the collective welfare of the community and its outreach efforts. In solidarity with their fellow missionaries, candidates uphold a commitment to pray for both the living and deceased members of the Society. This practice underscores their interconnectedness with the broader missionary family and reminds them of the spiritual bonds that unite them.

Throughout this period, candidates undergo a discernment process, seeking clarity and guidance as they fully prepare to embrace their calling. Ultimately, the journey towards full acceptance into the Society is a testament to the profound dedication, discernment, and spiritual growth inherent in the vocation of missionary service.
