On the 7th of February in Oosterbeek Fr. Ben Beemster MHM received the English version of the book about Dirk Schut MHM, who was stationed as a missionary in Uganda between 1924 and 1942. A niece of Dirk Schut, Martha Lambrechts edited the Dutch version in 2019, with the title ‘Het offer, dagboek van een gedreven missionaris’. Ben Beemster worked in the same area in the sixties and also contributed to the book with several background stories to paint a rounded picture.
In January 2024, exactly a century later, this niece made a trip in Uganda, where she, besides the highlights of this Pearl of Africa, also visited the former parishes in East-Uganda where her missionary uncle had worked. On this trip she took a few books with her for persons interested in the story of her uncle’s life. When several people expressed their pity for not being able to read Dutch, she decided to make an English version of the book.
