It is with regret that we inform you of the death at the Provincial Hospital in Hall, near Innsbruck, Austria in the evening of Monday, 24th March 2025, aged 90 years, of Fr. Ludwig Jester, MHM.
Fr. Ludwig was born on August 28, 1934, in Ainet, Austria. He grew up in a religious family with four brothers and five sisters. From a young age, he felt called to serve God.
He studied in different places, including Austria, Italy, and London, focusing on philosophy and theology. He became a Mill Hill Missionary and was ordained as a priest in 1958. His first mission was in Nellore, India, where he provided spiritual care. Later, he continued his studies in Rome and became a teacher of Canon Law and Moral Theology in London and Rome.
Over the years, he took on many leadership roles, including Rector in Brixen, Chapter Delegate, and Regional Representative for German-speaking missionaries. He later served as Rector in Rome and as Procurator General. Even after retiring in 2009, he remained active in the church, celebrating Mass and helping others.
Fr. Ludwig lived a dedicated and joyful life, always helping and inspiring those around him. Despite health challenges, he remained positive. He passed away at the age of 90 on the eve of the Feast of Annunciation in Austria. His funeral will be held on March 31, 2025, in his hometown of Ainet. May he rest in peace.
