Last Saturday our Care of Creation Team in the Parish organized an interesting and informative workshop on Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’ to help the people of God to ACT for ‘care for our common home’. (Fr Willem Klaver mhm)
His introductory words:
On this day that Pope Francis is signing his new encyclical in Assisi titled “Fratelli Tutti” on fraternity, we are concluding this year’s Season of Creation with a special event, namely a reflection on Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’ which was published more than 5 years ago in which he expressed “an urgent invitation to a new dialogue about how we build the future of the planet”. He added: “We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all”. Today this call is more urgent than ever. And the current crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic has abruptly highlighted how vulnerable our common home is.
For organizing today’s event, I want to express my deep gratitude to the Care of Creation Team members in our Parish led by Sr Maco Cassetta. They are doing a wonderful job. They have managed to get two excellent speakers for today Sr Kathleen Deignan and Brother Kevin Cawley. I am sure they will introduce themselves. I am told Sr Kathleen is an amazing musician and liturgist and Brother Kevin is a scientist and Christian Brothers liaison with the United Nations. I will now hand over to them and ask them kindly to help us to reflect on “Laudato Si’: On Care of our Common Home”. Kathleen and Kevin, you are welcome!
